Getting hotter
If it's not frosts it's droughts. What a crap year it's been for weather down here! Battening down the hatches on the farm, and maybe get to spend the hours that were going to be in the vineyard at the beach. Maybe it's not so bad after all....

Cellar Door
Christmas is on it's way - and the Cellar door is stacked to the rafters for stuff for the "Perfect Dinner Party" . It's not just about the wine here...food is also nice to go with it.

The Happy Couple
Just a couple more snaps of the Al & Dunc's wedding from the other weekend - many thanks to the Duncan's and Tolley's for their hospitality!

Penola Races
The big man upstairs turned it on for the Penola Races the other week, and so the first good weather of Summer was followed closely by the first sunburn.

Robe Village Fair
Another perfect weathered year for the Fair, and once again Jimmy Barnes turned it on and up (USA members think Aussie Bruce Springsteen).

Fashion
Sarah Mitchell turned it on for the 2nd birthday of her PR company Sarsparilla, held at the funky little Adelaide bar the Jade Monkey.

Christmas Party Tips:
Here are some great tips on making the perfect party, thanks to local winemakers Jules Langworthy & Alana Hill-Ling's tremendous shin-dig the other weekend:

1). Go for cold food like prawns or ham, so you don't have to worry about inconsiderate pricks who rock up late.
2).  If you want hot food, go the roast or lamb, so you can turn it down and let it simmer while you wait for these late guests.
3). If your running late for someone else's party, you better have a bloody good bottle of wine.
4). If it's hot, go to the hardware and buy 10m of plastic (for about $2 a metre) for a makeshift slip & slide. Use olive oil as a makeshift slide lubricant if you have water restrictions.
5). Invite winemakers. They have a tremendously expensive amount of wine in their cellar.
6). Have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks on hand so your guests don't get as drunk as we did
7). Make twice as much food as you think you'll need.

Useless Fact:
Wine has so many organic chemical compounds it is considered more complex than blood serum.

Xmas Wine Tip:
If you have a big gutsy Oaked Chardonnay poured for you this Christmas, and you prefer a Sauvignon Blanc, slip an Ice cube in it; it will hide those big vanilla hotness (while not getting drunk so quickly).

Wino Xmas Present:
Plastic ice cubes; chill wine without diluting those tasty flavours.

Wine Quote:
"A bottle of good wine, like a good act, shines ever in the retrospect."
           ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Koonara 2006 Emily May Rosé $16 - This year's is a cracker. Made from 100% Cab Sav, the skins were on this for only 2 hours. Only 3 grams of residual sugar, this wine still tastes sweet - a sign of the high quality of grapes used.

Good luck finding a dryer Rosé with a longer finish. Built for Sunday afternoons & the beach...

Starvedog Lane Bubbly - $26. Built for the classy bits of the silly season.

A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A fine wine-- and another one."
