Vino Report

Ballooning over Coonawarra - Freezing morning getting to go up in the tiny basket, but easily worth it. Spectacular. Up there for an hour, but felt like 5 minutes - definitely a market for someone to do it full time.

The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival was a resounding success, with Todd McKenny the highlight on the Saturday Night, But a show-stealing performance from Elvis impersonator Andy Seymour stole the show - Thank-yer very much...

WINE QUOTES:
“No nation is drunken where wine is cheap; and none sober, where the dearness of wine substitutes ardent spirits as the common beverage. It is, in truth, the only antidote to the bane of whiskey.”

WINE TO GO:
Te-Aro Estate "Two Charlies" Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mouvedre $22-
Holy crap - this is a tremendous value for money wine. In fact, being a new label, all of these wines from Te-aro estate are supremely good value. Sweet black cherries and smoky poached blackberries.
Goes with caramelised onion & red wine jus on steak medallion wrapped in bacon.

WINE TO GO:
Angel's Peak 2003 Cab Sav - $14.95. Unbelievably soft, juicy, and stupid value for money.. Made to drink now, but will cellar well for years. Only 1200 Cases made and are moving very quickly. Buy 10, get 2 free ($12.45 a bottle).
(order here)

Koonara Silver Label Shiraz 2003 - 14.95
Smooth as silk baby. 2 years in Oak hasn't made a dent on the big fruit in this wine. Still really young fruit for a 2003, showing fine structured tannins. Member only, pretty much. Only 500 cases, and most of that is already gone. (order here)

"Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A fine wine-- and another one."
