KOONARA VINO REPORT

Weather;
Hot! Damn hot! Great when your at the beach, not so good when your in a hot office or toiling soil. Nearby Robe is getting unprecedented guests visiting, at least this drought is good for something. Even Buster the water-shy wonderdog (below) will get his feet wet...

New Cellar Door
Coonawarra Wine Gallery is now open, showcasing all of Foster's wines from Coonawarra, including Penfolds, Jamesons Run, Rouge Homme, Lindermans, and Robertsons Well.

Great things in Coonawarra at the moment:

Musthavewantseebuy - or 'Want' for short - Deb (above) has set up a new shop here in Penola full of every pamper gift you could need. Very city for the country...

Kalangadoo Apples
- Organic, and simply the crunchiest sweetest apples ever. Galas are available at the moment, and Pink Lady's and Fuji's will be coming in the next couple of months...

Fantastic sunrises - and sunsets - perfect when your playing bowls, the hot summer "sport" in Coonawarra.

Kris Hewitt & Danny Buderus
Nicole & I went to a fantastic wedding in Newcastle recently - it was set on a picturesque island in the middle of the Hawksbury River. Only 100 guests were lucky enough to see these two lovebirds tie the knot, and you couldn't have picked better weather for it..... even if you had tried. More photos HERE.

Well there you go:
Research from around the world generally shows that countries with higher alcohol consumption have fewer drinking problems than those countries where consumption is relatively low.

FOR THE FOODIES:
Honey glazed roast beef
Roast beef served with corn and potato mash.
Serves: 6
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time:
Ingredients
1 1/2 kg   piece scotch fillet, fat trimmed
2 tsp   olive oil
1 tsp   freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp   honey
1 tbsp   lemon juice
1 tbsp   fresh thyme leaves
1 cup   white wine
1/2 cup   beef stock
For the corn and potato mash:
4   corn cobs, husks removed
600 g   desiree potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
50 g   butter
1/4 cup   milk
    steamed vegetables to serve
Method
1.   Preheat the oven to 200 degree C. Heat a frypan and add the oil. Brown the beef on all sides.
2.   Place in a roasting pan and cook for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 180C and cook for another 30-35 minutes.
3.   Brush with the honey, lemon and thyme mixture during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
4.   Remove from the oven and leave to rest covered with foil, while you make the sauce.
5.   Remove any excess fat from the pan and place the pan over a medium heat.
6.   Add the wine and stock and scrape up any meat residue from the pan. Bring to the boil and reduce by one third.
7.   Corn and potato mash: Cook the corn cobs in boiling water or in the microwave until tender. Cut the corn kernels from the cobs, place in a food processor or blender and blend to a rough puree
8.   Steam or microwave the potatoes until tender, drain and mash along with the butter and hot milk with a potato masher. Stir in the pureed corn and season to taste.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve with the sliced beef, accompanied with the corn and potato mash and steamed vegetables.

Fabric Sauvignon Blanc: Sav Blanc doesn't have to be steely grapefruits; keep you eye on this label, and region. Fosters have moved on into Mt Gambier and snapped up as many contracts for Sav blanc as they could get their hands on.
This sav blanc is why: big fruit, but with a complexity rarely seen in this grape. Call Julian Langworthy on 0409 092 936. You heard it here first.

"Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A fine wine-- and another one."
