Koonara Vino Report
The comings
and goings of the Koonara
The Goings:
For those who don't know, it is with sadness that we announce the
passing of Trevor Reschke, my dad. He was a great guy, and will be
sadly missed. Many of his friends knew him as a great shooter - he
was picked for the National Team at least twice, and the State Team
at least 16 times...then we lost count. His greatest sporting
achievement came when last year he won The Championship Ribbon in Naracoorte. He had been on a liquid
only diet for over a month, and after each round he was so weak he had
to sleep in the car. Not only did he win the championship
ribbon, but he beat one of the top shooters in Australia to do it.
He will be missed.

Cooking with
MacGyver:
 ABSENTEE
FISHING
Bait a whole bunch of hooks, string them
on a line across the waterway, and then walk away. Be careful that the line you string across the waterway is
strong (550 cord works well). Tie it between a couple of trees a few
feet above the water, and then you can either rely on the water flow
to keep the bait near the surface, or simply put just enough line
down to your hooks so as to allow them to sink. If the water is
moving, your bait will be dancing to entice the fish. If there's
little or no movement, you can tie some leaf covered branches to the paracord
to catch the wind, making your bait look lively.
While waiting for a catch, you can keep yourself busy drinking a
bottle of Angel's Footsteps Sav Blanc - but save some to have
with the fish you catch.

Word
of the month:
Cold Stabilisation
A process in which white wine is chilled to create tartaric acid as
small crystals which can then be removed before bottling. Wines that
have not been cold stabilised may throw these crystals at a later
stage. They are harmless, but don’t look very nice in the bottle.
Wine Quoteth:
"Your true
amateur sips his wine; as he lingers over each separate mouthful, he
obtains from each the sum total of pleasure which he would have
experienced had he emptied his glass at a single draught."
- Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, French gastronome, (1755-1826)

Bar Joke of
the month:
A kangaroo walks
into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender says, "That'll be $10.
You know, we don't get many kangaroos coming in here." The kangaroo
says, "At 10 bucks a beer I'm not surprised."
Marika and Christian
Reilly
Ahhh...good times. Great wedding recently of Marika & Christian, two
of the loveliest people you could ever meet. With the reception held at
the Adelaide Wine Centre, you couldn't beat the setting - or a bit of Greek dancing to get
the party flowing.

Dinner
Party Music:
John
Lee Hooker - The Definitive collection
The word if you ever wanted to delve into a blues album -
perfect for that cruzy dinner party and Sunday afternoons.
Born in, Mississippi in 1917 to a sharecropper family, John
Lee Hooker was one of the last links to the blues of the
deep South. He moved to Detroit in the early 1940's and by
1948 had scored his first number-one jukebox hit and
million-seller, "Boogie Chillun." Other hits soon followed,
"I'm In The Mood," "Crawling Kingsnake," and "Boom Boom"
among the biggest.
Hooker continued to tour the U.S. and Europe throughout the
'70s and '80s, but it was the release in 1989 of his album,
The Healer, that catapulted him back to million-seller
status and began what has been the most successful period of
his extensive career. Sadly he died in 2001.

WINE TO GO:
Plunkett Blackwood Ridge Strathboogie Ranges
Shiraz 2005 $17
The
joining forces of the Plunkett and Fowles families have
certainly paid off - if this wine is anything to go by.
Intense vibrant violets and blueberries on the nose, with a
long, well structured sweetness on the palate. All this for
a wine which you can pick up for even cheaper directly.
