Autumn events and Adventures

As we move from Summer to Autumn, our calendar is filling up with exciting opportunities events to share our wines and create some truly memorable moments together. From the bright city lights of Adelaide to our cosy cellar door in Penola, here’s what’s brewing in the Koonara world this Autumn.

Fool’s Paradise: Our Debut at Adelaide Fringe

Did you know that Adelaide Fringe Festival is the world’s second-largest annual arts festival? It’s true! With more than 8,000 artists from around Australia and the world descending upon Adelaide during February and March, it’s quite a spectacular affair.

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that this year, Koonara wines are making their debut at Fool’s Paradise. With two unique venues and a lineup bursting with circus, physical theatre, comedy, cabaret, music and magic, we couldn’t be more excited to be the “Wine of the venue.” (We’re allowed to feel a bit special about that, right?)

If you find yourself in Adelaide before 23rd March, pop by Fool’s Paradise for a show and treat yourself to a glass of Koonara while you’re at it. You might even spot us there, glass in hand, soaking it all up!

Racing into Autumn: Mount Gambier Gold Cup

Pencil this one in, folks! Friday, 21st March, is the date to remember as Koonara once again takes the reins as the official on-course wine supplier for the Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup.

While we’re taking a little breather from hosting our Platinum Marquee this year, our wonderful friends at Ray White Real Estate will be pouring our wines for everyone to enjoy in their fabulous “Atrium Marquee.”

Be sure to secure your ticket to this great day out. Whether you’re a racing enthusiast or simply enjoy the social atmosphere of a day at the races, our selection of wines will be the perfect companion as you cheer on your favourites or simply soak up the festivities.

Easter Family Fun: Cellar Door Scavenger Hunt

School holidays are rapidly approaching and if you’re looking for something to keep the whole family entertained? We’ve got just the thing! From 4th April, we’re hosting a fun scavenger hunt starting from our cellar door in Penola.

This family-friendly adventure will have you and your crew exploring the charming sights of Penola with fun challenges along the way. And not surprisingly (or is it?), it all wraps up back at our cellar door. The kids can enjoy some activities while the adults get to the important business of wine tasting. We think our vegan-friendly, low-sulphur wines are the ideal reward for your scavenger-hunting efforts. Keep an eye on our social channels for all the details!

Autumn’s Spectacular Show: The Perfect Time to Visit

So why not plan a trip to Coonawarra and Penola during the school holidays? As autumn takes hold, the vineyards of Coonawarra transform into a spectacular tapestry of reds, oranges, and gold. This natural display offers a breathtaking backdrop for wine tasting and exploration that everyone will adore.

While the days remain pleasantly warm, the crisp autumn air creates ideal conditions for outdoor adventures. The region comes alive with activities for visitors of all ages – from cellar door hopping to nature walks and cultural experiences.

Feeling a bit adventurous? Why not explore the region via e-bike on the spectacular Coonawarra Rail Trail? It’s a brilliant way to experience our wine region from a different perspective, and e-bikes make it accessible no matter your fitness level. You can hire them locally from our friends at Penola Caravan Park. Just imagine it: gentle exercise, fresh autumn air, stunning scenery, and “what a coincidence” a well-deserved glass of Koonara wine waiting for you at the finish line. We call that a perfect day!

Seasonal Transitions: Wines for Autumn Evenings

As the days gradually shorten and evenings cool down, it’s only natural that our wine preferences start to shift too. Autumn is that wonderful in-between season, still warm enough for lighter styles on sunny afternoons, yet cool enough in the evenings to appreciate something with a bit more body and character.

This is the perfect time to explore the versatility of our range. Our Angel’s Peak Shiraz offers those classic Coonawarra characteristics that pair beautifully with hearty autumn dishes (mushroom risotto, anyone?), while the Ambriel’s Gift Cabernet provides elegant complexity for those special occasions.

Still clinging to summer? Our award winning A Song for Alice Riesling delivers crisp refreshment with subtle complexity. It’s ideal for those lingering twilight hours on the porch watching the autumn sunset.

Coming Soon: Mother’s Day Limited Edition Wine

We’re being a bit secretive about this one, but we’re getting pretty gosh darn excited about our limited edition Mother’s Day wine release. This special creation has been crafted with the same care and consideration as the love we have for the wonderful women in our lives.

Keep your eyes peeled on our emails and social media in the coming weeks for the big reveal. We think this one is going to be particularly special. After all, what better way to celebrate Mum than with a thoughtfully created wine that’s as unique as she is?

Mark Your Calendar: Penola and Coonawarra Arts Festival

As autumn progresses, our region will come alive with creativity during the annual Penola and Coonawarra Arts Festival from the 16th to the 18th of May. The weekend showcases the rich artistic talent of our region through exhibitions, performances, and interactive experiences. It really does make for the perfect weekend getaway for both art enthusiasts and wine lovers alike. Do yourself a favour, and be sure to get along.
