We’ve teamed up with Cuvée Co. and Westmere Wines to bring a delightful blend of premium wines, charming atmospheres, and local history, all within easy walking distance of each other. If you loved exploring the Coonawarra Walking Trail, then you’re in for a right treat with the Cellar Doors on Church Street!
A brand new, fancy, shiny, sparkly collaboration
The Cellar Doors on Church Street collaboration brings together three distinctive wineries, each offering their own special touch:
Firstly, there’s us: Koonara Wines
Our Coonawarra vineyards are the only certified organic vineyards in Coonawarra thus far. Known for our high-quality Coonawarra reds and Limestone Coast-famous Flowers for Lucy Moscato, our commitment to organic practices ensures that every bottle is crafted with care for both the environment and our customers. Located smack-bang in the middle of the main street of Penola, our Cellar Door also doubles as a homewares shop, making it a perfect spot to pick up any last-minute gifts or souvenirs. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere invites you to relax and enjoy a personalised tasting experience, sampling our vast range of local organically grown wines.
POPO + Cuvée Co.
Just six months ago, Peta from Cuvée Co. opened the doors of the historic Penola Old Post Office site, bringing to life ‘POPO’. Specialising in sparkling wines, Cuvée Co. offers a vibrant selection that is sure to impress. Their quirky gift shop adds an element of fun to your visit, and Peta regularly hosts private tastings and workshops, making it a dynamic stop on your wine journey. Whether you’re a sparkling wine aficionado or a curious beginner, Cuvée Co. provides an engaging and educational experience.
Westmere Wines
Tucked away in the Local Images Art Gallery, Westmere Wines is a hidden gem that combines the beauty of art with the pleasure of wine tasting. This small gift shop offers a wide range of locally grown red and white wines, allowing you to explore the diverse flavours of the region. The intimate setting is perfect for one-on-one tastings, where you can learn about the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of Westmere’s offerings.
But wait, there’s more! Enter the Monthly Prize Draw
We know, as if it can get any better, but it does! If the charm and wines were not enough to entice you, there’s also the monthly prize draw. All you need to do is visit each of the three cellar doors within a single month, make a wine purchase, and get your card stamped. Once you’ve collected stamps from all three wineries, simply fill in your details and leave your card at the last cellar door you visit to enter the draw. Prizes include a variety of items from each winery, such as wine, verjuice, and homewares.
While you’re here, why not explore Penola?
Much like the saying ‘more than just a pretty face’, Penola is more than just great wine and cellar doors. The town’s main street is a delightful area to explore, with a range of cafes and pubs perfect for filling hungry bellies.
You can relive the days gone by at the historic Petticoat Lane, and learn more about the history of the town on the Heritage Walk. The well-preserved buildings and heritage sites, provide a picturesque backdrop to your visit. Penola is also the home to Australia’s first saint Mary MacKillop and the Interpretive Centre in her honour is well worth the visit.
The Town Square is an ideal spot to relax, enjoy some sunshine, and share a delicious vanilla slice from Windara Bakery (trust us on that one – it’s delicious). Then take time to wander through the local shops, where you’ll find a variety of unique products and friendly locals eager to share their stories.
Make a day of it, or a weekend!
The Cellar Doors on Church Street collaboration makes it easy to plan a perfect day out in Penola. Start your day at any of the three wineries, and make your way along Church Street, enjoying the close proximity of each cellar door.
